Where The Desert
Meets The Forest

Impeccably Unspoiled, Magically Wild

Surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, Globe is where Sonoran Desert cactuses and flatlands give way to the highlands of the Mogollon Rim. This variety in vegetation and range in altitude — from 1,300 to 7,900 feet — offers outstanding recreational opportunities year-round, whether it’s lake beaches or cool pine forests. This is nature as it’s meant to be — and it’s all at your fingertips here in Globe.

Cool Off in a Desert Oasis

Once the largest human-made lake in the world, Roosevelt Lake is still the largest reservoir in Arizona, offering countless recreation opportunities from lounging to fishing and more a short 30-minute drive from Globe. A haven for anglers, game fish in Roosevelt include largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish and crappie. When full, the lake covers more than 22,000 acres near the confluence of Tonto Creek and the Salt River, with 112 miles of beautiful beaches and secluded coves. A selection of several hundred developed campsites, multiple shoreline areas, and small, isolated, islands and coves offer outstanding opportunities for camping and relaxing.

Explore Ancient Civilizations

What was once the 1906 Old Gila County Courthouse has since been reimagined as the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, a community art center that presents sculptures, photography, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, quilts and other art forms created by local and national artists, plus live performance pieces in the center’s theater. While the bulk of the exhibits are from the modern era, small nods to the past can be found throughout — there’s even an entire room dedicated to Arizona’s first female governor (and Globe native) Rose Mofford.
