EXPERIENCE AUTHENTIC ARIZONA IN GLOBE
Where the Spirit of the West Lives On
Remarkably Authentic, Uniquely Arizonan
A centuries-old melting pot, Globe has long been home to pioneers, loggers, ranching families, miners, Indigenous people, famous cowboys and outlaws. Today, the town’s storied past can be discovered at museums and monuments around town, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all ancient history. There’s an ethos of resilience and creativity that abounds here — from the hardy pioneers who were bound by a set of unwritten rules centered on hospitality, fair play and loyalty to the Indigenous people who have shepherded the land since the dawn of time. Here, the spirit of the Wild West isn’t just a legend — it’s a way of life.
MODERN IDEAS MEET RICH HISTORY
Spend the Day Exploring Art and Culture in Globe
Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park & Museum
Just a mile southwest of Globe are the ancient ruins of the Salado people, who lived in the area over 800 years ago. The site of this historical village is known as Besh Ba Gowah which was a name given by the Apache people in the early settlement of Globe that means “place of metal.” The partially restored ruins provide a fascinating glimpse at the lifestyle of the people who occupied this region over two centuries before Columbus arrived. In addition to the ruins, Besh Ba Gowah also offers a museum that houses a large collection of Salado pottery and artifacts, botanical gardens and a gift shop.
Cobre Valley Arts Center
What was once the 1906 Old Gila County Courthouse has since been reimagined as the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, a community art center that presents sculptures, photography, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, quilts and other art forms created by local and national artists, plus live performance pieces in the center’s theater. While the bulk of the exhibits are from the modern era, small nods to the past can be found throughout — there’s even an entire room dedicated to Arizona’s first female governor (and Globe native) Rose Mofford.
Stairizona
This network of urban trails features public art and expansive vistas. Meandering through historic neighborhoods allows guests to enjoy some of the town’s exquisite architecture with many buildings dating to the early 1900s. At the heart of the trail is a a series of concrete staircases spread throughout the neighborhoods surrounding Globe’s historic downtown. The stairs date back almost a century, built to help miners and other residents navigate the hilly terrain.
